From your file to the wall, no surprises
Here is exactly what happens between your order and your letters on the wall.
You configure
A few clicks: your text or logo, the material, thickness and fixing. You see the result and the price live — no need to wait for a quote to decide.
We check your file
A graphic designer checks that the cutting file is production-ready. Want a proof before we start? It is free — make the most of it.
We cut in our workshop
Your letters are cut for you, to your dimensions, in our workshop in the French Alps. Nothing is outsourced.
You mount them straight
Delivery to your office, home or a pickup point. The optional full-size template gives you perfect alignment and spacing on the first try.
Craftsmanship since 1990
Every product is machined, assembled and packed by our own team, in our workshop in the heart of the mountains — nothing is outsourced.

Everything is customisable
Every project is unique. Material, colour, font, shape, thickness, finish — everything combines freely in the configurator, and the result shows on screen, at the right size, before you confirm.
A more specific need — a multicolour logo, a gradient, a precise shade or a mounting constraint? A graphic designer studies your project and answers you, quote included.

A fixing for every surface
Every surface has its fixing. You pick the one that fits — we advise you if needed — and we mount it on the back of each piece.

Can brass letters be used outdoors?
Yes. All four versions, Polished glossy brass and Raw matt brass in 1.5 or 3 mm, are suitable indoors and outdoors, from shopfronts and façades to front doors and entrance halls. Exposed to the weather, brass may develop a natural patina. If you want to keep its original colour, simply apply a clear lacquer after fitting. Outdoors, Ultra Adhesive holds on render and brick, and snap-on spacers give an architectural look.
Does brass darken over time?
It can. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, so it may develop a natural patina over time, especially outdoors or in humid areas. Many people enjoy this, particularly on Raw matt brass, whose vintage character grows with age. If you prefer to keep the original bright gold, applying a clear lacquer after fitting is all it needs to protect the surface and preserve its colour.
Polished glossy or raw matte brass: which should I choose?
It depends on the effect you want:
- Polished glossy brass: a premium mirror look with a warm, bright glow, popular with fashion boutiques, hotels, law firms and head offices.
- Raw matt brass: a deeper, understated vintage gold, ideal for restaurants, creative studios and design-led interiors.
Both have a 1 mm bevelled edge that reveals the gold and sharpens the relief.
Which thickness should I choose, 1.5 or 3 mm?
Choose 1.5 mm for small to medium letters, interiors, shop windows, fine fonts and delicate logos: it gives an almost jewel-like finish. Choose 3 mm for large letters, façades and big logos, where you want a bolder relief and extra rigidity. Both thicknesses are available in Polished glossy and Raw matt brass, and both accept every fixing option.
What is the minimum height of a brass letter?
Each brass letter starts at a minimum height of 7 cm. At the other end of the scale, a full composition can reach 4,000 × 2,400 mm, generous enough for large signs and feature walls. Note that if you choose magnetic or snap-on spacer fixings, each piece must measure at least 20 × 20 mm. Ultra Adhesive has no such constraint.
How are brass letters fixed to a wall?
Three fixings are available on every finish and thickness (brass letters are too thin to stand on a shelf, so there is no freestanding option):
- Ultra Adhesive: double-sided foam, quick and drill-free, for glass, tiles, smooth plaster, render and brick.
- Snap-on spacers: the letter stands about 1.5 cm off the wall for a drop shadow. A 1:1 mounting template is included.
- Magnetic: for steel surfaces such as doors or metal partitions.
Can you make my logo in brass?
Yes. Simply upload your logo or artwork in the online editor. Accepted formats include jpg, png, pdf, svg and eps. Our team then sends you a proof by email so you can check and approve the design before production. For fine details and delicate outlines, 1.5 mm brass is usually the best choice. For large logos on a façade, 3 mm offers more relief and rigidity.
How much do brass letters cost?
Brass letters benefit from tiered pricing by size. The larger the letter, the lower the cost per cm². No quote is needed: the price is shown live in the online editor as you choose your text, font, finish, thickness, height and fixing. This lets you compare options instantly and find the right balance between size, finish and budget before ordering.
Is brass the same as copper?
No. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, which gives it its characteristic gold tone. Copper on its own has a redder, more orange colour. We don't cut letters in pure copper. If you are looking for a coppery, warmer feel, Raw matt brass comes visually close, with a deep, understated gold that develops a vintage character over time.
Otypo's brass letters are letters, numbers, words or logos cut to your design from a sheet of solid brass, 1.5 or 3 mm thick, one piece at a time. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, is a real gold-tone metal: Polished glossy brass for a mirror-like shine, or Raw matt brass for a warm, understated gold. Each letter starts at 7 cm high and a composition can reach 4,000 × 2,400 mm, indoors or outdoors. Fix them with Ultra Adhesive, snap-on spacers or magnets. Made and dispatched within one working day, with tiered pricing by size.
Brass is the most precious of our cut-out letters and shapes. This page covers what matters: finishes, thicknesses, sizes, uses and fixings.
Brass Letters Made to Measure: Text, Names, Numbers or Logo
Each of our custom brass letters is a separate piece cut from a sheet of solid brass, then fixed in relief on your wall, door or shopfront. The wording is entirely up to you: a single word, a company name, a first name, or brass letters and numbers together. If you would rather have a house number on a single plate, our house number signs are the better fit.
In the online editor, you choose your font, type your text and see a live 3D preview before you confirm. You can also upload your own artwork or logo (jpg, png, pdf, svg, eps and more): our team sends you a proof by email within 24 business hours. Buyers searching for laser cut brass letters usually want crisp, clean edges; our cut brass letters are made in our own workshop with that same precision. For large brass letters, a composition can reach 4 metres wide.
One honest distinction: these are not the fixed-size A-Z door letters sold in hardware shops. You get your text, in your font, at your size.
Polished Glossy or Raw Matte Brass: Two Finishes
Polished glossy brass (the "premium mirror look") has a smooth, reflective surface with a warm, bright glow. In our experience, fashion boutiques, hotels, law firms and head offices choose it for an immediate sense of prestige.
Raw matt brass (the "vintage look") offers a deeper, more subdued gold. It suits restaurants, creative studios and design-led interiors, and its vintage character grows over time. Brass can develop a natural patina over time; to keep its original colour, a clear lacquer applied after fitting is all it needs.
Every letter also has a 1 mm bevelled edge. The bevel reveals the gold on the edge of each letter and sharpens the relief, an effect especially striking on Polished glossy brass.
1.5 or 3 mm Thick, from 7 cm to 4 m
1.5 mm suits small to medium letters, interiors, shop windows, fine fonts and delicate logos, with an almost jewel-like finish. 3 mm is the choice for large letters, a bolder relief and extra rigidity on façades and big logos. Every letter starts at a minimum height of 7 cm, and a composition can reach 4,000 × 2,400 mm, generous for brass. If you need a lighter, colourful alternative, PVC letters are worth a look.
The four brass versions at a glance:
- Polished glossy brass, 1.5 mm: premium mirror look, bright gold · indoor and outdoor · Ultra Adhesive, snap-on spacers or magnetic
- Polished glossy brass, 3 mm: premium mirror look, deeper relief · indoor and outdoor · Ultra Adhesive, snap-on spacers or magnetic
- Raw matt brass, 1.5 mm: vintage look, warm matte gold · indoor and outdoor · Ultra Adhesive, snap-on spacers or magnetic
- Raw matt brass, 3 mm: vintage look, deeper relief · indoor and outdoor · Ultra Adhesive, snap-on spacers or magnetic
All versions: minimum height 7 cm, maximum 4,000 × 2,400 mm, 1 mm bevelled edge; magnetic and spacer fixings need pieces of at least 20 × 20 mm.
Gold Letters in Real Metal: Why Brass
Looking for gold letters? Brass is the real gold-tone metal: its colour comes from the material itself, not from paint or vinyl. It is an alloy of copper and zinc; we do not work pure copper, but if you want a coppery feel, Raw matt brass comes visually close.
Lighter gold options exist elsewhere in our range: Natural aluminium in Gold and Brushed Aluminium Dibond in Gold, or Mirror plexiglass in Gold for interiors. And if you were searching for stainless steel letters, our cut-out letters don't come in stainless steel, but Brushed aluminium and Brushed Dibond give the same brushed-metal look, while Polished glossy brass delivers a gold mirror finish. For solid, premium gold, brass remains the reference.
Brass Sign Letters for Shop Fronts, Offices and Hotels
Brass sign letters create a prestige sign from individual letters: shopfronts, windows, reception desks, medical practices, hotels and law firms. The relief is real, snap-on spacers add a soft drop shadow, and the metal catches the light throughout the day. That is why brass letters for signs remain a favourite of businesses that want to look established.
If you prefer engraved text on a single plate, that is a different product: see our brass signs, or our wider range of metal signs. For inspiration on brass signage letters in real settings, browse our work.
Brass Wall Letters for Interiors
Brass letters for wall decoration turn a word, a name or an initial into a focal point: a living room, an entrance hall, a reception area or a restaurant wall. Because each piece is cut to measure, you are not limited to stock letters; choose the font, the height and the finish that suit your interior.
How to Fix Brass Letters: Adhesive, Spacers or Magnetic
All three fixings are available on every finish and thickness:
- Ultra Adhesive: double-sided foam, quick and drill-free. It holds on glass, tiles and smooth plaster, and also on render and brick. This is our answer to self adhesive brass letters.
- Snap-on spacers: for pieces of at least 20 × 20 mm, the letter stands about 1.5 cm off the wall for a drop shadow and an architectural look. A 1:1 paper mounting template is included to mark the drill holes.
- Magnetic: for pieces of at least 20 × 20 mm, on a steel surface such as a door or metal partition, ideal for letters you change often.
